Jack the Ripper by Mystery Room – Split, Croatia

Following the story of Jack the Ripper, we were tasked to find the names and dates of his victims and then his true identity in order to get out.

This room had some amazing props and a brilliant atmosphere which made it feel much more immersive than Diocletianus. Again, I was annoyed at how long the final clue took us as we should have solved it much more quickly but we still managed a decent time in what was a tricky room. This was definitely our favourite of the two!

Diocletianus by Mystery Room – Split, Croatia

The last part of our honeymoon took us to Split! This room is set in historical Split, in the basement of the famous Diocletian’s Palace and sees you trying to escape whilst collecting 8 ancient coins.

The best thing about this room is that there is a vast range of puzzle types and styles. It is definitely suited to the more maths minded players as there are several that require those logical problem solving skills.

We were annoyed at ourselves for missing a couple of hidden keys but we were chuffed overall with our time of 13 minutes and 49 seconds remaining (not bad when the success rate is only 40%).

Whilst a little tired in places, the room was very enjoyable and it was brilliant that they incorporated the local theme.

We had a bit of a nightmare with transport on the way there but the Mystery Room were really flexible and understanding, letting us change our booking at last minute. Great customer service!

Escape Room at TUI BLUE Adriatic Beach – Croatia

For part of our honeymoon we wanted a few days at a relaxing all inclusive so when choosing a hotel, we had to book the one with an escape room – obviously.

The room itself is a 30 minute, unmanned room next to the beach which costs guests only €4 each to play.

It consisted of 4 independent puzzles which you solve in sequence and then use these to solve one final riddle. The puzzles themselves were very simple but still fun to play although there was a slight issue with one – relying on condensation in a hot climate doesn’t always work! We should have completed the room in about 11 minutes had this worked but it added 5 mins onto the time.

We still really enjoyed it and for such a cheap price, we were glad to have had a go.

Secret Treasure of Dubrovnik by Puzzle Punks – Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Our 2nd game at Puzzle Punks was very enjoyable. We were slightly worried at the start as the couple before us (who had similar experience to us) only just escaped in 56 mins with lots of clues. We didn’t want this to be our first fail!

Our mission was to find the secret treasure of Dubrovnik which had been buried in the terrible earthquake. Luckily, we got off to a quick start and even solved a couple of puzzles by accident so managed a time of 36 minutes!

Whilst not as immersive or atmospheric as their GOT room, it was great to explore some of the history of Dubrovnik and to play a different style of game. This one was non-linear and so was made up of more puzzles and a range of styles.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a photo so here is one of Dubrovnik old town.

We really enjoyed this room and would highly recommend it!

Save King’s Landing by Puzzle Punks – Dubrovnik, Croatia

So we couldn’t go on honeymoon without seeing what Croatia had to offer in terms of escape games. As fans of Game of Thrones, we had picked Dubrovnik as our first location. We, of course, had to try their GOT inspired room – Save King’s Landing. Based on events from season 2, we had to find the wildfire to ensure that Tyrion’s army could defend themselves against Stanis Baratheon’s attack at Blackwater Bay (which was partly filmed at Old Town Dubrovnik).

From the second we entered the room, we loved it! The props and decor were phenomenal. With inspiring books about the great houses of Westeros, house banners and old wooden and iron props, we were transported to the seven Kingdoms.

The room itself takes a linear strategy and it seemlessly flowed from one puzzle to the next. The puzzles themselves were imaginative, immersive and there wasn’t a coded padlock in sight!

Our GM was also welcoming and interesting to talk to, an experienced escape room player himself. He let us complete the room without interference and we luckily didn’t need to ring the “bell of shame” for a clue.

We finished with just over 27 mins to spare, which was a quick time but we loved it nonetheless.
